The People’s Democratic Party, PDP’s suit against Shettima’s double nomination has just been dismissed by the Supreme Court, as it upheld the decision of the Lower Court, ruling that the PDP had no right to institute the action.
The judgement delivered by Justice Adamu Jauro, ruled that PDP had acted outside their authority, as they absolutely had no locus standi to institute a case regarding the internal affairs of another party.
The actions of the party have been described as ‘sad’, with their claim summarily dismissed for lack of merit. Alternatively, the PDP have been fined the sum of two million Naira, in support of INEC, the APC, Bola Tinubu and Kashim Shettma.
Furthermore, the Judge ruled that Shetima’s position as the incoming Vice-President did not constitute a multiple nomination breach, as he had withdrawn his Senate nomination form, on the 6th of July and had been replaced.
Finally, the Judge reiterated the fact that no political party had the authority to question another party’s affairs.
