The United Nations denounced the massacre of more than 30 civilians in Gamboru Ngala Local Government, Borno, on Friday.
Stéphane Dujarric, the UN Spokesman, said this at a press conference at the UN Headquarters in New York.
The spokeswoman stated that the UN Humanitarian Coordinator in Nigeria, Matthias Schmale, had strongly condemned what he termed as appalling civilian killings in Borno, in the northeast.
In a briefing on Niger, Dujarric stated that the UN and its partners, in collaboration with the government, had launched a 583 million dollar humanitarian appeal this year to assist 2.7 million people.
He also stated that another appeal for more than $400 million was launched today to help the government’s efforts to improve food security for internally displaced persons, host communities, refugees, and flood victims, among others.
According to him, Niger is one of the Sahel countries most affected by climate change and desertification.
According to him, climate change and desertification result in the loss of approximately 100,000 hectares of agricultural land each year.
