The Edo State Government had on Tuesday confirmed the outbreak of Monkeypox in the state.
This was according to a report by Ojeifo Stephenson, the Director of Public Health in the state who disclosed this in a statement issued on behalf of the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Health.
Stephenson had further revealed that three patients suspected with Monkeypox were confirmed in the past 72 hours in the state.
Stephenson also said that patients who have been isolated were currently receiving care at Irrua Specialist Teaching Hospital (ISTH), Irrua and Edo State University Teaching Hospital, Auchi respectively.
In partnership with other stakeholders, the state would continue to provide the public with additional informative and educational materials as necessary.
However, Stephenson had urged all residents in the state to maintain strict Infection Prevention and Control (IPC) measures at all times.
He further stated that the IPC measures should be regular hand hygiene by regular washing hands with soap and water or using an alcohol-based sanitizer, disinfecting surfaces and objects, proper waste management, and practicing respiratory hygiene by covering while coughing and sneezing and using masks in crowded areas.
Finally, advised that any suspected cases of Monkeypox should be reported to state officials of the ministry.
