According to the spokesman for the rebel Tigrayan forces in northern Ethiopia, they
have turned over their heavy weapons following the November ceasefire deal agreed upon in South Africa.
An African Union monitoring and verification team confirmed the transfer, according to Getachew Reda on Twitter.
The move, along with the restoration of services in the war-torn region where hundreds of thousands of people were slain, is fundamental to the accord.
Another requirement is that Eritrean soldiers who fought alongside the Ethiopian
government withdraw.
According to reports from Tigray, the troops are still present.
