According to official reports, severe rains accompanied by strong winds have killed an estimated 27 people, including 8 minors in northwest Pakistan on Sunday, June 11.
Reports had it that the rainstorms hit four districts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province Saturday night, killing 15 people in Bannu district, including 5 siblings between the ages of 2 and 11.
Taimur Ali Khan, a representative for the provincial disaster management authority had informed AFP that over 140 people had been injured while more than 200 livestock had perished, in the aftermath of the storm.
Meanwhile, government authorities have declared an emergency in all four affected districts.
A statement released by the provincial disaster management authority in Sindh province have warned of very heavy rainfall and winds of up to 100 kilometres an hour later in the week.
Fishermen are cautioned against venturing into the open sea until the danger passes by June 17.
