At least 6 casualties have been recorded, following a road accident involving several vehicles on Tuesday, July 11, along the 9th Mile-Ugwu Onyeama road in Enugu.

The car crash, which involved a petroleum tanker, a Jeep, a GUO Hiace bus, and a truck with a heavy load, had several casualties.

NAN reports that some of the survivors had been taken to Our Saviour Medical Centre, 9th Mile, Enugu, the National Orthopaedic Hospital, Enugu, and the Enugu State University of Technology Teaching Hospital, Parklane, for medical care.

The Deputy Governor of the State, Ifeanyi Ossai, has already visited the scene of the incident and the victims at their respective hospitals.

The remote cause of the accident is still yet to be ascertained as at the time of writing this report, as the state government is waiting for a report from the institutions responsible to inform them of what happened.

Ossai had meanwhile, pledged that the state government would support the wounded in paying for their treatment and post-treatment rehabilitation.

Dr Emma Ngwu, the medical director of Our Saviour Medical Centre, had tagged the accident ghastly.

According to Ngwu’s statement, 14 survivors had been brought to the hospital, excluding the six dead bodies that were deposited in the hospital’s morgue.

More details to come …
