Trump Applauds ABC's Decision Regarding the Jimmy Kimmy/ Charlie Kirk Controversy

The indefinite suspension of Jimmy Kimmel’s talk show is a direct and terrifying act of political censorship and the fact that this move was celebrated by President Trump and followed threats from his appointed head of the FCC, Brendan Carr, proves that the administration is leveraging government power to silence its critics. The pretext that Kimmel’s comments were “offensive” is a thin veil for the reality that no comedian or commentator is safe from the wrath of the White House.

Trump Applauds ABC's Decision Regarding the Jimmy Kimmy/ Charlie Kirk Controversy

The government’s campaign to punish Kimmel for his remarks about the Charlie Kirk assassination is a new and dangerous low in the American political landscape. FCC Chairman Brendan Carr’s thinly veiled threats of regulatory action against broadcasters that aired the monologue were an explicit form of government coercion. By urging local TV affiliates to pull the show and warning of “additional work for the FCC ahead,” Carr was effectively telling media companies to fall in line or face consequences. This is not how a free press operates. For a country that prides itself on the First Amendment’s protection of even “the thought that we hate,” this marks a dramatic departure from foundational principles. The suspension sends a clear message to all media outlets that they must either toe the line or risk being targeted. This is the new political censorship in the US.
