A concert planned as part of President Donald Trump’s “Great American State Fair” celebrations marking America’s 250th anniversary was suddenly called off on Friday, barely two hours before rapper Vanilla Ice was expected to perform.
Organisers of the Freedom 250 celebration announced that activities would end earlier than planned on Friday because of severe weather conditions in the area, adding that the event is expected to resume on Saturday morning.
“The safety of our guests, staff, and partners remains our top priority. We are actively monitoring conditions and will provide updates as they become available,” the organizers said in a statement on the social platform X.
The event also encountered a series of challenges after several performers pulled out, including Martina McBride, The Commodores, Bret Michaels, and Young MC. The artists reportedly said they were not informed about the event’s political affiliations before agreeing to participate and later withdrew their appearances.

Vanilla Ice, born Robert Van Winkle, remained the only performer still scheduled to appear after several other artists withdrew. Just hours before the event was canceled, he described the show as a “once in a lifetime opportunity” in a post shared on Instagram.
“We’re about to have a great party tonight,” the rapper said, showcasing a massive stage on the National Mall where he was set to perform. “This is gonna be epic.”
At this time, there has been no confirmation on whether Vanilla Ice’s performance will be moved to another date.
The singer had earlier explained that his participation in the event was not politically motivated, saying his interest was driven by patriotism and a desire to join in celebrating America’s independence.
Following the withdrawal of several performers, Donald Trump reportedly pushed for the concert to be called off and replaced it with a campaign-style MAGA rally held on Wednesday to launch the celebrations.
