On Sunday, a Turkish drone strike in northern Iraq resulted in the tragic demise of three members of the Sinjar Resistance Units (YBS), a militia with affiliations to the Kurdistan Workers Party (PKK), as reported by Iraqi security sources.
The fatal incident unfolded as three YBS fighters were travelling in a vehicle within the Sinjar region when they were targeted by the drone strike, as disclosed by two separate security sources cited by Reuters.
Turkey has maintained an enduring military campaign in both Iraq and Syria aimed at combatting militants associated with the PKK, YBS, and the Syrian Kurdish YPG militia, all of which Ankara designates as terrorist organizations.
The Turkish military routinely conducts airstrikes in northern Iraq and maintains numerous outposts within Iraqi territory. However, recent days have witnessed an escalation in drone attacks, with strikes occurring in closer proximity to urban centers and along major roadways.
