As the 2023 presidential election nears, political leaders in the state have been talking to a lot of well-known Nigerians about their plans to run for president.
It should be remembered that certain All Progressives Congress (APC) leaders have declared their interest in running for president, while others have yet to do so.
The National Leader of the Party, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, the Governor of Ebonyi State, Governor David Umahi, the Governor of Cross River State, Governor Ben Ayade, and the Senate Chief Whip, Senator Orji Uzor Kalu, are among the Presidential aspirants of the Party who have declared their interest in running for President.
Meanwhile, several APC leaders are considering running for president, but they have not made their intentions known to the public. However, even if they are elected as the party’s presidential candidate, some APC leaders may fail to deliver their states to the party.
Former Governor of Rivers State, Rotimi Amaechi, is one of the APC leaders who may not be able to deliver the state for the party if he becomes the party’s presidential candidate. It was rumored that Amaechi was considering running for President under the party’s platform. On the other hand, Amaechi hasn’t said that he plans to run for president.
Amaechi is also said to be President Muhammadu Buhari’s endorsed presidential candidate. President Muhammadu Buhari previously stated that he would not divulge the identity of his nominated presidential candidate to the general public.
However, if Amaechi is elected as the APC’s presidential candidate, he may not be able to deliver the state for the party. The reason behind this is that the APC does not enjoy widespread support in the state.
Governor Nyesom Wike, the governor of the state, will use all of his power to make sure that the PDP wins the state’s future elections. Meanwhile, Rotimi Amaechi and certain prominent party leaders in the state have a strained relationship. In the state, for example, Amaechi and Senator Magnus Abe have a strained relationship.
As a result, Amaechi may not be able to deliver the state for the APC as a result of the party’s issues in Rivers state.
Governor David Umahi of Ebonyi State is another APC leader who may not be able to deliver the state for the party if he is elected as the party’s presidential candidate. It should be remembered that Governor Umahi recently declared his intention to run for President on the APC platform. Governor Umahi was one of three governors from the PDP who defected to the APC.
On the other hand, Governor Umahi may not be able to deliver the state for the APC if he is elected as the party’s presidential candidate. The latest judgment of the state’s court, which fired Governor David Umahi and his deputy, may disrupt the APC’s structure in the state.
It should be remembered that the PDP’s leaders had previously sued the governor and his deputy for abandoning the party that had helped them win the governorship election in favor of the APC.
Another thing to think about is that Anyim Pius Anyim, the former Senate President and a member of the PDP, has said that he wants to run for President on the party’s platform. Meanwhile, Senator Anyim is well-liked in the state, and Governor Umahi may find it difficult to win the state for the APC because the votes will be split between the two parties.
