Two Indian Air Force fighter jets crashed earlier today, Saturday, January 28 killing one pilot. The unfortunate mid-air collision had occurred south of the nation’s capital in New Delhi.
The crash involved a Russian-made jet Sukhoi Su-30, conveying two pilots, and a French-built Mirage 2000, operated by a third pilot.
The Indian Airforce had said via a statement: “The aircraft was on a routine operational flying training mission,” while confirming that one of the two surviving pilots had sustained fatal injuries.
An investigation was underway to determine the cause of the crash, the Airforce had also added.
Meanwhile, Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan had in a tweet, instructed local authorities to assist the Airforces with rescue and relief work.
“I pray to God Almighty that the pilots of the planes are safe,” The Minister had added.
This recent crash is the latest in a series of aviation accidents involving India’s military air fleet since last year.
