A Democrat lawmaker Bennie Thompson has described the January 6 attempted coup as a huge attempt to overthrow the government as the attempt was no accident and it was the former US President’s last stand. The Mississippi lawmaker who is also the chairman of the committee in charge of the hearing disclosed this, in a statement on Thursday 9 June, as the hearing was about to begin.

The Republican vice-chairman for the committee stated that the former president had stoked the flame for the attack that happened. Previously, Donald Trump’s supporters stormed the Congress on 6th January 2021 as lawmakers gathered to certify the election of now U.S President Joe Biden.

After almost a year of investigations, the U.S House of Representatives led by Democrats with a selected committee began the hearing on Thursday with video clips of interview sessions with Trump’s inner circle members. Also, recorded testimonies from the former president’s daughter, Ivanka Trump were featured. Miss Trump confessed to accepting the rejection of Trump’s conspiracy theory.

The entire room was shocked when they heard Ms. Chaney read an account that claimed that Trump was quoted saying “He deserved it”, about the mob chanting for then vice president, Mike Pence, to be hanged.  This bitter statement could have alluded to Trump’s anger that his Vice President didn’t agree to block and reject the 2020 election results.

The primary aim of the committee was to make accounts of not just the January 6 riots but also everything involved in overturning the 2020 presidential election results. There would be six court hearings this month.
