The University of Ibadan authorities in Oyo State, have ordered students of the institution to embark on a three-week break.
This directive is coming twenty-four hours after the students staged a protest over the ‘outrageous’ hike in their school fees.
Reports had surfaced yesterday that students had in the early hours of Friday, embarked on a protest over school fees hike, leasing to a sudden halt in the academic and non-academic activities at the institution on Friday.
The institution, in a statement signed by its Registrar, G.O. Saliu, highlighted that the decision to direct the students to go on break was made after a meeting between the management and the leadership of the students’ union.

Saliu, had in the memo released on Saturday, said that the break was an opportunity for the students to complete their online registration, adding that the 2023/2024 first-semester examinations will now hold on Monday, 23 September 2024.
Saliu also stressed that the portal for registration would be closed on Friday, 20 September 2024 and that all students living within the institution’s hostels were to vacate the hostels by 2:00 p.m. today (Saturday), warning that students who fail to register on time will not be allowed to write the examinations.
