UNIBEN Condemns Killing of Student

9 pm on Monday, a final year student of the University of Benin, Edo state is known as mayor who Is a student of public administration was shot by unknown gunmen in front of his hostel, Hall 3.

The university has been in an uproar since the unfortunate incident, Mayor was a very popular student and was the Kegite Chief of the school.

The University management has released a statement, condemning the killing of mayor, carried out by an unidentified Gunman suspected to be a cultist.

The management further assured the students that they are working closely with the police to apprehend those who perpetrated such act and that such a devilish act would never happen again in the university environs.

The statement read, “The management of the University of Benin has condemned the brutal and sad killing of a final year male student, known mostly as ‘Mayor’ (real name withheld) on the night of Monday 3rd March 2023.

“The gruesome shooting occurred in one of the halls of residence and was carried out by yet-to-be-identified gunman.”

“Management is also working closely with the internal security units in ensuring that such dastardly incident does not occur again within the university’s premises,” the statement added.

Nigerian universities are filled with such ills, and the issue of Cultism in our tertiary institution has claimed many lives and is still claiming lives.
