Days after the University of Abuja sent a rustication letter to two students, Cyprian Igwe and Sunday Oladeru for sending a WhatsApp message to students inviting them for a meeting to deliberate on the 50% hike of school fees, it has made an about-turn on its now former decision.
The actions of the school are not surprising as the two students had been officials of the Student’s Union Government and had steadily been receiving backlash from Nigerians, who questioned the reason for the students’ rustication.
One of the affected students who had been interviewed had revealed that the university recalled the rustication letter, explaining to the students that they had only meant to suspend the students.
In the student’s words:
“The school wants us to return the letter, saying that it was a mistake and it was supposed to be a suspension letter, but after all the damages have been done, they’re now realising their mistakes. The school did us an injustice and should face the law.”
