Dosu Joseph, a former Super Eagles goalkeeper, is positive that the friendly game between the super Falcons and USA will adequately help the team to be ready for the 2023 FIFA women’s world cup held in Australia and New Zealand.
The WAFCON 22 games have ended with the Bayana Bayana team of South Africa emerging as champion, unfortunately, Nigeria did not get any medal, as they could not retain their title. They failed to qualify for the finals after the 5-4 defeat in the penalties shootout to Morocco, in the semi-finals of the game, and they still failed to get the third position after they were defeated by Zambia.
According to Dosu, the friendly match will help the team tie their loose ends, as the coach will get to know where they are lacking in terms of strength and make necessary amendments.
“The 2022 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations has come and gone and focus now should be on how to prepare the team for the 2023 Women’s World Cup”
“I really don’t think the team needs to be overhauled even though I know few changes will be done before the competition. However, the friendly game against the USA will further help the coach to identify the strength and weaknesses of his team”.
“This will now allow him to make amendments that will improve the team.”
The first friendly game is to take place in Kansas City Children Mercy park on September 3rd while the second is to take place at the Audi field in Washington DC
