Professor Pat Utomi, the former presidential aspirant attached to the All Progressives Congress (APC) party has recently made an announcement, stating his intention to step down for Mr. Peter Obi at the ongoing presidential primaries of the Labor Party (LP). He announced the primaries themselves and explained that he had made the decision based on the fact that a younger aspirant was needed; one who had the energy and capacity to effect the change Nigeria sorely needed.
As of the time of writing, the primaries are currently held in Asaba, Delta State, and another aspirant, the 45-year-old Joseph Faduri has also backed off, clearing the way for Peter Obi to ascend. To lend further credence to the sincerity of his words, Prof. Utomi along with others were spotted accompanying Mr. Obi as he made his grand entrance to the venue of the Labor Party Convention.
It must be recalled that these actions are taking place just one week after Mr. Obi decamped from the Peoples’ Democratic Party (PDP) and joined the Labor Party, citing conflict of interests and a deep desire to rework Nigeria as reasons for the switch. It remains to be seen whether the former Governor of Anambra state can nab the ticket of his party and get one step closer to achieving his goals.
