Ashleigh Plumptre has declared that she and her team despite not qualifying for the finals of Africa’s women’s cup of Nations, will treat Friday’s game against Zambia as finals. The super Falcons are to battle with the Copper queens of Zambia for the third place position on Friday.
They lost to the Atlass Lionesses of Morocco in a penalty shootout after a 1-1 draw, while the Copper queens of Zambia lost to South Africa on a 1-0 win.
Plumptre, who has been phenomenal since the start of AWCON games 2022, said that the game slated to hold today is like finals to them. She further praised her team for the solidarity they displayed at the semi-finals on Monday, despite the odds being against them, they gave their very best to the game. According to her battling for third place is not what they wanted, but they’ll treat today’s game as finals.
“The last game shows how much solidarity we do have,” the Leicester City star on Brila FM.
“Collectively we had to play together with nine players on the field, I think that shows solidarity in itself.
“We are frustrated, we are a high-achieving team we wanted to be in the final. We play every game as if it is a final and this one would be no different.“
It was at the 2008 edition of the AWCON games that were held in Equitorial Guniea, that the super Falcons went home with a bronze medal.
Both Zambia and the Super Falcons have secured their world cup ticket which is to hold next year.
