Popular Nigerian socialite Cubana Chief Priest has continued to attract attention following his growing alignment with President Bola Tinubu, especially as he positions himself within the pro-Tinubu “City Boy” movement.

The influencer sparked fresh controversy after suggesting that the recent killings in Jos, Plateau State, were carried out to embarrass Tinubu on his birthday.

The attack, which reportedly left over 40 people dead in Angwan Rukuba, occurred on Palm Sunday and has remained a major talking point across the country.

Why Cubana Chief Priest Has Switched Political Allegiance To Tinubu

Reacting via Instagram, Cubana Chief Priest expressed sympathy for the victims but linked the tragedy to political motives.

“I have been cold, in the past few days, the video of that woman and her child can’t get out of my head. When will these killings ever stop?

“The Governor in Jos pulled up in a Bunker, does it mean everyone should now pull up in bunkers because he is more scared for his life than the people. To lead a state you have to be fearless and be ready to lay your life for the people.

“I feel for everyone in Jos. This was clearly done to embarrass our president on his birthday”, he said.

His comments have drawn widespread criticism, with many Nigerians arguing that such narratives distract from the severity of the killings and the need for accountability.

Nigerian singer Skales also weighed in, condemning the statement as insensitive.

“This guy is delusional… I can’t believe he said that,” Skales wrote. “Lives were lost and all you care about is the presidency being embarrassed. Where is your conscience?”

Attention has also shifted to Cubana Chief Priest’s political journey. In the build-up to the 2023 elections, he was largely associated with support for Labour Party candidate Peter Obi, but he has since emerged as a vocal supporter of Tinubu, openly aligning with the president’s camp and the so-called “City Boy” movement.

This shift from one political camp to another has continued to generate discussion, with many questioning the timing and motivation behind his current stance.

As debates intensify, his remarks and political alignment remain at the centre of public scrutiny, particularly against the backdrop of national insecurity and public expectations from influential voices.
