Music producer and Mavin Records founder, Don Jazzy, has opened up about several artists he wishes he had worked with but didn’t, citing timing, circumstances, and instinct as key reasons.
In a moment of reflection, Don Jazzy revealed that he missed out on signing both Simi and Teni, two artists he holds in high regard.
While praising their talent, he admitted with some regret that he would have loved to bring them into the Mavin fold.
He also shared that Davido was once within reach, but he chose not to pursue a deal because he believed the young artist was bound for greatness with or without him.
“I had the opportunity for Davido, obviously, but I didn’t because I kind of figured that he would be fine,” he said.
On why Wizkid didn’t end up with Mavin, Don Jazzy noted that the star was already under Banky W’s guidance at the time, closing the door on any possibility of signing him.
As for rapper Falz, he disclosed that a deal nearly happened but ultimately fell through. Despite that, he remains a fan of Falz’s work.
In conclusion, Don Jazzy made peace with the realities of the industry, stating:
“You can’t sign everybody, no matter how talented they are.”
