Veteran Nollywood actress, Bimbo Akintola, has opened up about her personal life, revealing that she has walked away from several marriage offers over the years.
According to her, the decision was never about pressure but about waiting patiently for the right partner.
In an interview, the 52-year-old screen star made it clear that she does not view her single status as a disadvantage.
She explained, “For me not to have found my partner, the person I want to spend the rest of my life with, I don’t see it as a negative. I’ve been proposed to many times, and I’ve said no.”
Akintola warned against the tendency of rushing into marriage just to please society, stressing that such choices often lead to regret.
She pointed to the country’s alarming divorce rates as proof, saying, “Did you just marry because people say marry? Look at divorce ratings now in Nigeria, it’s skyrocketing. Some people are married before they leave the reception if the marriage has broken up.”
Beyond marriage, the actress also touched on family values, particularly the way boys and girls are raised. She urged parents to hold their sons to the same moral standards often expected of daughters.
In her words, “Teach your sons that their body is the temple of God the same way you teach your daughters. As soon as you impregnate a girl, no more school for you, my dear. Go and work and raise your child.”
She further encouraged women to be discerning in their choice of partners, stressing that wealth alone should not be the deciding factor. Instead, Akintola advised them to seek out men with strong character and a good work ethic rather than those who rely solely on riches.
