In a very recent move, Governor Nyesom Wike of Rivers state has signed Executive Order 21 which will ban the usage of public schools for political parties without the approval of the state ministry of education.
Applicants must submit their application at least two weeks before the date of the campaign, and additionally deposit the sum of five-million-naira caution fees in case attendees destroy the facilities in the schools.
The Executive Order will also allow a local council chairman to stop any rally in the state if approval is not sought.
Wike had thereby advised candidates for next year’s election to be committed, peaceful, and responsible in their conduct as required by the law, and has warned that any head of school that connives with political parties to hold rallies in their premises without any approval by the state government will be severely dealt with.
