Wolverhampton Wanderers ended a season of a disappointing run of results with their relegation from the Premier League confirmed. Rob Edwards conceded that this result was something he and the squad had been mentally prepared for quite a while.
The final blow fell with a 3-0 defeat at Leeds United who are also struggling in the league and this has left Wolves without any chances of survival. Tottenham Hotspur’s late equalizer against Brighton did momentarily postpone the official confirmation of their relegation but after West Ham United only managed to hold Crystal Palace to a draw, it became definite.

Edwards’ men had to face the music for a disastrous beginning when they could not be winedr in any of their first 19 games and they were able to gather only three points until the break. This lame beginning turned out to be their undoing as the loss of points during the season was just too big, even if there was a clear upgrade in the results in the second half of the season.
In 2026, Wolves have managed to get 14 points showing that they can still put up a great fight but unfortunately this late effort has not been enough to enable them to escape relegation. They are, in fact, becoming one of the earliest relegated teams in the history of the Premier League.
Very few teams have the unenviable distinction of being relegated even earlier than Wolves which shows that they have been struggling on such a scale. Their relegation this time is similar to that of Southampton last season and it shows how early season collapses can end up totally deciding the outcome of a whole campaign.
For Wolves, all the attention will be given to how to get back to the top but for now, the focus has to be on rebuild and the relegation battle continues for those that are still fighting to stay up.
