Former Real Madrid and Liverpool midfielder Xabi Alonso is enjoying life in London after a week of preparing for life as Chelsea head coach by playing a round of golf.
The Spaniard completed his first training sessions last week, having been appointed Chelsea boss in May, before taking a short break and taking to the greens at the popular among professionals, Longcross Course at Foxhills Country Club, Surrey.
Alonso, who has taken over from previous manager Enzo Maresca after the Blues suffered a tumultuous campaign last term, with Liam Rosenior and Calum McFarlane having both previously served as interim coaches before the 44-year-old’s arrival.
Speaking about his move to Stamford Bridge at the beginning of the month, Alonso said it was “a big privilege” to be appointed at Chelsea.

He admitted he is “very happy and very excited to challenge in the Premier League.” Alonso is in the same opinion as the players that he has been drawn to manage at Stamford Bridge, believes he will prove the quality he has to lead players to victory, “as they have shown they have the ability to play at the highest level.
It’s my mission to try and improve from that base, make sure they continue to have the right mentality, working hard and having passion for the game.” The Blues boss is aiming to guide his new team to a place of silverware at the end of the 2026-27 campaign.
