The 2026 edition of the Met Gala, the annual haute couture fundraising event, has unveiled its theme for this year’s exhibition. Scheduled for May 4, the star-studded gala will once again be hosted by Vogue editor-in-chief Anna Wintour.
This year, the Costume Institute has themed the event ‘Fashion Is Art,’ encouraging attendees to treat their bodies as a “blank canvas” for creative expression.
Andrew Bolton, curator of the Costume Institute, explained the concept behind the theme, highlighting fashion’s unique role in connecting people and spaces within museums.
“What connects every curatorial department and what connects every single gallery in the museum is fashion, or the dressed body. It’s the common thread throughout the whole museum, which is really what the initial idea for the exhibition was,” Bolton said.
The announcement invites guests to explore fashion not just as clothing, but as an artistic medium capable of bridging culture, galleries, and individuals.
