A brazen drive-by shooting outside a Chicago nightclub early Wednesday left four dead and 14 wounded, marking one of the city’s most violent incidents so far this year. The attack occurred around 11:00 PM local time as attendees departed an album release party for local rapper Mello Buckzz, with gunmen in a dark-colored vehicle spraying bullets into the crowd before fleeing, according to Chicago Police Department reports.
The shooting claimed the lives of two men (24 and 25 years old respectively) and two women (26 and 27 years old). As at the time of filing this report, four victims remain in critical condition at area hospitals, while others sustained serious injuries.
Authorities have not released the identities of those killed, pending family notifications. Eyewitness Pastor Donovan Price described scenes of “absolute chaos” with “blood on the streets” and victims “laying on the pavement”—a level of violence he called unprecedented even for Chicago’s troubled neighborhoods.
Ongoing Investigation and Community Reactions
Police confirmed no arrests have been made and the suspect vehicle remains at large. The shooting occurred in the city’s South Side, an area historically plagued by gang violence and gun crime. Detectives are reviewing surveillance footage and witness statements to identify the perpetrators, with speculation mounting about possible gang retaliation or music industry disputes given the rap event connection.
One rapper, Mello Buckzz, whose album release party preceded the tragedy, posted an emotional social media statement: “Prayers up for all my sisters… Feel like everything just weighing down on me.” Local activists and clergy have demanded increased police patrols and community intervention programs following the massacre, which comes amid a 12% year-over-year rise in Chicago shootings.
