In a spate of arrests made by the Enugu State Police, 35-year-old Juliet Donatus was nabbed for stealing and attempting to sell an 8-year-old boy. Speaking on Friday, Daniel Ndukwe, the police spokesperson in the state disclosed that the suspect confessed to stealing the boy from Zamfara before bringing him into Enugu state for sale.

He reassured reporters that the boy had been rescued successfully and the case transferred to the Gender/Anti-Human Trafficking section of the State Criminal Investigation Department (CID) for prompt investigations. Ndukwe also added that contact had been made with the Kaduna State Police Command for aid in the investigation and eventual prosecution.

In further reports, it was revealed that the arrested suspect was only one of 46 persons arrested for a slew of offenses between March and April in Enugu state. One of those was the 19-year-old Onyemaechi Okorie of Uburu, Ohauzara LGA, Ebonyi state who is alleged to have murdered a male co-worker on the 27th of April when a fight between the two led to the victim being bludgeoned to death with a metal rod. Mr. Ndukwe disclosed that the police forces on command were quick to action and arrested the suspect the same day the crime took place.

Also, arrested were two other men and a native doctor for the alleged kidnapping of Amechi Oguma in October 2021. The suspects which included the native doctor, Sunday Ede Aneke (34), and the two men Oko Chukwudi (27) and Ifeanyi Eze (36) confessed to the kidnapping of the man and the demand for a ransom of N10 million naira.

Other members of the 46 include three persons suspected to be part of the same gang, three armed robbery suspects, four tricycle snatchers, and three cultists. Also recovered in the raids were two motorcycles, six tricycles, 25 firearms, and three cars among other things.
