Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola has appealed for support from the fans ahead of their Wednesday night Premier League match against Nottingham Forest, as the defending champions seek to bring an end to a seven-game winless streak across all competitions.
City, who have won six of the last seven league titles, dropped to fifth in the standings after their 3-1 defeat by Liverpool on Sunday. It was their fourth straight league defeat and raised more questions about whether they will be able to challenge for any silverware this season.
Guardiola, however, remains optimistic, urging fans to back the team during this challenging period. “The situation is what it is, but they know what these players have done over the last decade. We absolutely need their support to change the dynamic,” he said.
With 23 points from 13 games, City trail leaders Liverpool by 11 points and sit two behind Arsenal and Chelsea. Guardiola emphasized a step-by-step approach, focusing on securing a top-four position rather than lofty title ambitions.
The much-improved Nottingham Forest under Nuno Espírito Santo lie sixth, a further point back, and Guardiola recognised their physicality and their form, making them a tough opponent for City in their attempt to revive their campaign.
