PDP Criticizes N47.9 Trillion 2025 Budget as Anti-People
Share on FacebookShare on TwitterShare on Whatsapp

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has criticized President Bola Tinubu’s 2025 budget plan, calling it “unfriendly to the people” and warning that it will exacerbate poverty, insecurity, and economic hardship. The party describes the N47.9 trillion budget as not offering solutions to Nigeria’s major issues, especially in important areas like agriculture, electricity, petroleum, and small businesses.

The PDP expressed concerns about the budget’s transparency, with President Tinubu failing to disclose the capital and recurrent expenditure profiles.

The party also criticized what it called “bogus” statements in President Tinubu’s budget speech, such as unconfirmed economic numbers and unrealistic promises to lower inflation and strengthen the Naira without clear strategies. The PDP cautioned that the budget’s N13 trillion shortfall will be financed by imposing more taxes and levies on already struggling citizens and businesses.

In response, the PDP called on the National Assembly not to approve the 2025 budget as it is, but to use its power to change the proposal and focus on growing the economy and helping Nigerians.

Meanwhile, the Lagos Chamber of Commerce and Industry (LCCI) praised the federal government’s “strong” plans in the 2025 Budget, which focus on important areas like security, infrastructure, education, health, and agriculture. However, the LCCI warned that the budget implementation is the important factor and urged the National Assembly to act quickly.
