Slovenian match official Slavko Vincic’s career officially concluded a week after officiating the “2026 World Cup Final”, between Spain and Argentina at MetLife Stadium.
Vincic made and refereed football’s top competition under the watch of numerous fans across the world. Football Association of Slovenia, NZS, has indeed announced that 46- year- old Vincic chose football at its peak for the farewell to his successful career.
A referee for a range of big and important events since 2010, Vincic worked over fifty UCL and Europa League finals in 2022, and the UCL 2024 final between Real Madrid and Borussia Dortmund at Wembley.
His refereeing was lauded across the globe as the International Federation of Football History& Statistics (IFFHS) recognized him as “the best match official” at WC2026. Besides, his refereeing brought him the prestigious Giulio Campanati Award from Italy Referee Association.

For WC2026, Vincic refereed three matches: Spain’s 1-0 win over Argentina in the WC Final. He issued one red card and nine yellow cards for the game.
Before this last appearance on the field, Vincic refereed FIFA’s draw between Brazil and Morocco. Then Jordan vs. Algeria followed, and Mexico vs Ecuador, in which he gave a straight red card to Piero Hincapie in accordance with FIFA’s new regulations.
