Manchester United faced more misery on Wednesday when they lost to Brighton 3-2 after going two goals up in the League Cup at Old Trafford.
United dominated from the off as Shea Lacey put them ahead inside eight minutes, before Mount doubled the lead two minutes later after Marcus Rashford’s shot was kept out.
But Brighton were back on level terms just before the half-time interval thanks to Charalampos Kostoulas who capitalised on indecision at the back.
Pascal Gross seals the comeback in the 65th minute, latching onto the loose ball after Luka Vuskovic’s header, before slotting it home at the second attempt.
They then did the turnaround five minutes down the line as Maxim De Cuyper cut in from the left and finished from six yards after Kostoulas’ pass.
Bruno Fernandes and Matheus Cunha came on for Carrick’s side in attempt to snatch a late leveller but United were unable to salvage any points.
Third defeat in six matches Carrick has now lost three times in six games in all competitions. The defeat was United’s second successive home loss.
Brighton have eliminated United from two domestic cups in nine months, having beaten United in the FA Cup at Old Trafford in January.
This was also United’s first loss at home after being 2-0 up at the break after 50 years.
