Popular Nollywood actress Halima Abubakar has condemned entertainers’ illegitimate use of drugs, saying anyone caught doing so should be punished under the law.

Halima, who has recently become the public face (ambassador) of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), provided an insight into what prompted her to take on such a project.

She said: “I’ve always worked for good causes. I want to be an agent for a delicate matter like this. I have been invited to serve and that is what I will do.”

Standing firmly on her ground and insisting that any entertainer caught promoting illegal drugs should be punished as required by law, she said: “If we try to have a clean and healthy society that works, then we punish the display (of the use of illegal drugs) is a must.

While speaking about her personal life, she said she chose a private life as it gives her peace of mind due to the controversies surrounding actors in the entertainment industry in Nigeria (controversies that come with being an actress).

“I am a private individual, regardless of my profession. Private life is a happy life.”

On financial independence, she said it is very important that both genders take financial independence seriously.

“Everyone needs to be financially stable, regardless of gender. Financial education is for everyone. Women should strive to have additional sources of income.”

Halima Abubakar is a Nollywood actress, who started her acting career in 2001 and made her debut starring in Gangster Paradise. She also won the Afro Hollywood Best Actress Award.
