Biden asserts that America “won’t walk away” from the Middle East.

Speaking to Arab leaders at a meeting, President Joe Biden stated on Saturday that the United States “would not walk away” from the Middle East as he works to maintain security in a volatile region of the world and increase global oil production to lower rising gas costs. As he completes the last stage of a four-day journey, he makes his remarks before the Gulf Cooperation Council as the area braces for a potential conflict with Iran. Mr. Biden declared, “We will not walk away and leave a vacuum to be filled by China, Russia, or Iran. We will seek to build on this moment with active, principled, American leadership.” Mr. Biden implied that he was turning the page after the nation’s wars in Iraq and Afghanistan, even though U.S. soldiers continue to target terrorists in the region and remain stationed at bases around the Middle East. He declared, “Today, I’m proud to be able to say that the eras of land wars in the region, wars that involved huge numbers of American forces, is not underway,” he said”

Additionally, Mr. Biden urged his counterparts, many of whom are in charge of restrictive regimes, to protect human rights, particularly those of women, and to permit their people to speak freely. He asserted that the nations that unleash the full potential of their populations—including enabling citizens to question and criticize leaders without fear of reprisal—will prevail in the future. Before his speech, Mr. Biden spent the morning having one-on-one meetings with the presidents of Iraq, Egypt, and the United Arab Emirates, some of whom he had never previously had a conversation. After concentrating on the Russian invasion of Ukraine and China’s expanding influence in Asia for the majority of his presidency, Vice President Biden has the chance to show his commitment to the region at the Gulf Cooperation Council summit in the Red Sea port city of Jeddah.

The White House made satellite images public only hours before the meeting started, showing that Russian officials visited Iran twice recently to inspect the weaponized drones it is hoping to purchase for its conflict in Ukraine. The Biden administration’s top aim in terms of foreign policy is to sanction Russia, but none of the nations present at the summit have followed suit. If anything, the UAE has developed into a sort of sanctuary for wealthy Russians and their pricey ships. Egypt continues to welcome travelers from Russia.
