The Olu of Yewaland, Oba Kehinde Olugbenle, has backed Ogun State Governor Dapo Abiodun’s ambition for a second term, claiming that Yewaland is not in a rush to produce the next governor in 2023. The governor was exhorted by the monarch to not be scared of any opposition to his candidacy for reelection coming from his district because the residents have decided to back him.

This was said by the ruler on Sunday as Salmot Badru, a former deputy governor of the state, was sworn in as the Iya Adeen of Ogun State. Since the state’s inception in 1976, the Ogun west, which includes Yewa and Awori, has not produced a governor. At the League of Imams and Alfas event in the state, Oba Olugbenle gave a message of goodwill and claimed that those who were running against Abiodun for a second term had not consulted him before entering the race.

Iyalode Alaba Lawson, the former deputy governor and Iyalode of Yorubaland, also publicly endorsed the governor’s bid for a second term. Badru stated in her acceptance speech that there won’t be a vacancy in Oke-Mosan in 2023 and that residents of Yewa and other regions of the state have decided to support Abiodun in the upcoming election.

Badru said, “One good turn deserves another. Governor Abiodun has done well and he is going to be rewarded with a second term election.”
