The National Union of Electricity Employees, which represents electricity workers, has vowed to free the nation from the clutches of the hustlers in the power industry and to call the privatization process a “charade.” In a statement released on Monday and signed by Temple Iworima, the organization’s assistant general secretary for the Lagos/Ogun Zonal Council, it was said that the organization would no longer tolerate energy generation and distribution firms taking advantage of Nigerians. The union claimed that since the power sector was privatized in October 2013, it has stayed inert and has not improved the lives of Nigerian residents.

Electricity employees under the auspices of the National Union of Electricity Employees have been in the foreground of speaking out on behalf of the Nigerian people since privatization in 2013. The privatization of the power sector has not improved the lives of typical Nigerians, and that is an irrefutable fact. The entire, charade-like exercise hasn’t improved the sector in any appreciable way and instead has caused a significant setback for the country. The statement claims that the infrastructure of the new owners in the electricity industry has nearly collapsed and that despite the current depressing economic climate, the socioeconomic standing of the typical worker in the sector has continued to fall.
