The Burkina Faso military has removed Lt.-Col. Paul-Henri Sandaogo Damiba, as the head of the country’s junta.
The ousting of Damiba, who took over power in a military coup in January, was revealed in a statement and read out on national television by soldiers in military fatigues on Friday night, September 30.
In the ousted ruler’s absence, Capt. Ibrahim Traore was appointed the new head of the country’s military government. Afterwhich, military officers announced the closure of borders from that midnight, the suspension of the constitution, and the dissolution of the government.
A 9:00 p.m. to 5:00 a.m. curfew was additionally imposed in the capital, Ouagadougou, and other big cities across the country.
