President Muhammadu Buhari, on Wednesday, October 12, swore in Justice Ariwoola Olukayode as the substantive Chief Justice of Nigeria.

This ceremony occurred at the Council Chambers in Abuja before the start of the weekly Federal Executive Council meeting led by the President, with Justice Ariwoola taking the judicial oath of office.

The nation’s dignitaries who attended the meeting were Vice President Yemi Osinbajo, his ministers, other justices of the Supreme Court, Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, and his Ondo State counterpart, Rotimi Akeredolu.

Justice Ariwoola had previously been appointed a Justice of the Supreme Court on November 22, 2011, by the then President, Goodluck Jonathan.

This appointment is coming on the heels of the resignation of the outgone CJN, Justice Tanko Muhammad’s resignation. He had been the CJN predecessor and had tendered his quit notice on the grounds of his health.

Akeredolu’s swearing-in ceremony took place after President Buhari conferred national honors to some 449 Nigerians and friends of Nigeria at the International Conference Centre, Abuja.

The duo of Justices Ariwoola and Justice Mohammed had received the second highest national honor –the Grand Commander of the Order of Niger -GCON.
