Three television stations and one radio station were shut down by the Zamfara State government on Saturday due to professional ethics violations.

NTA, Gamji TV, Al-umma TV, and Pride FM radio are the affected media outlets; they are all located in Gusau, the state capital.

Ibrahim Dosara, the state’s information commissioner, claimed on the radio that the media outlets were shut down because they had broken the rules of professional conduct.

Dosara claims that the impacted media outlets went to the Peoples Democratic Party demonstration in the state that had previously been prohibited by the state government due to security concerns.

The PDP disobeyed the order and held a rally in Gusau, the state capital, where one person was killed and 18 others were injured, according to him. The state administration had halted all political activities in the state due to insecurity issues.

Despite being aware of the state government’s restriction on political gatherings, the four media outlets—NTA, Gamji TV, Al-umma TV, and Pride FM radio—were also present to cover the event.

The four media outlets are hereby shut down with immediate effect in light of this.

While this is going on, the government has ordered security personnel to detain any employees of the impacted stations who attempt to enter the stations to complete any type of duty.
