Residents of the Dubantu community in Hadeja LGA may have to wait for the announcement of the election result to see if their preferred candidates have been voted into power in the upcoming elections. This is not for lack of interest in the February elections, but because a lot of the affected flood victims had lost their properties including their PVCs by the 2022 floods.

One of the flood victims, Mal. Audu Muhammed, aged 51, and his two wives Aisha and Khadijat while yet to find a safer place to stay, is concerned about who becomes the next governor of Jigawa state, his constituency representative, and most importantly, the president of the country.

Audu had said: “With the way things have been for us, I have long been waiting for this election to vote the right person into office who will protect us and help us live a decent life, but unfortunately, we are caught up in this situation where we can’t even approach the ballot because our PVCs have been destroyed by the flood.”

Meanwhile, Umaru Hadeja, the chairman of Hadejia Local Government, had in an interview narrated how details of affected communities have been collated, also revealing that plans were on the ground for polling units across the communities.

“We are not silent about the need of the people and their need to participate in the coming election,” Umaru had said.
