The National Rescue Movement, NRM, has asked a Federal High Court in Abuja to
disqualify the presidential candidate of the Labour Party, LP, Peter Obi, over his alleged possession of dual citizenship of two countries.

The Rescue Movement among others had alleged that the presidential candidate was not fit and qualified for the highest office in Nigeria because of his dual citizenship.

In the suit marked FHC/ABJ/CS/1842/2022, the plaintiff against Peter Obi’s candidacy had sought the order of the court to disqualify him from the Presidential race on account of breaching the 1999 Constitution.

Peter Obi had been accused of acquiring citizenship of Dallas in Texas, the United
States of America in a breach of sections 1 and 137 of Nigeria’s Constitution.

The Movement party through its counsel, Mohammed Danjuma, had then called for an order of perpetual injunction restraining INEC, from recognizing, dealing or giving Peter Obi any right or privilege to stand for the presidential election.

Justice Ekwo, the presiding judge has fixed February 10 for the mention of the suit and had threatened to strike out the case if the plaintiff (Mohammed Danjuma) failed to serve the court process on Peter Obi before the adjourned date.

The suit defendants are INEC, Peter Obi, and Labour Party as 1st to 3rd defendants,
respectfully.
