According to a study led by an assistant professor of global health at the George
Washington Milken Institute of Public Health, Emily Smith, and her research team at the George Washington University, Washington D.C., COVID-19 infection in pregnancy increases the risk of death in women by at least 7 percent while also significantly elevating the odds of her needing intensive care, according to a study.
The researchers also observed that getting the virus during pregnancy escalates the
likelihood of pneumonia, according to a U.S. News report.
These studies involved over 13,000 pregnant women and had patient data from 12
studies conducted in 12 countries, of which one of them was the United States.
Pregnant women with COVID also were five times more likely to have a higher risk of blood clots that can lead to pain, swelling, or other life-threatening complications.
