A Federal High Court in ABUJA has ordered the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to electronically transfer the results of the March 18 Governorship and House of Assembly elections.

The court also directed that the election results be communicated in compliance with INEC norms and guidelines.

The sitting judge, Justice Obiora Egwuatu, issued the order on Friday, March 17.

He also directed the use of the Bimodal Voter Accreditation System to upload a scanned copy of form EC8A to the INEC Result Viewing Portal immediately after all polling unit voting was completed.

The judgment further directed INEC to choose independent, competent, and dependable logistic companies that are not partisans or known supporters of any political party to distribute electoral materials and staff.

Egwuatu issued these directives while ruling on an ex-parte motion marked FHC/ABJ/CS/334/2023.

The Labour Party (LP) and Uduakobong Udoh, its governorship candidate in Akwa Ibom, as well as 13 state house of assembly candidates, filed the motion.

Moses Usoh-Abia, counsel for the applicants, sought the court to order INEC to follow its regulations and guidelines, particularly sections 37 and 38 on electoral conduct.

He further sought the court to order that the presiding officers of all polling stations prominently display the publication of result posters EC460(E) after completing the EC8A result sheets.
