The Executive Chairman, for the Plateau Universal Basic Education Board, –SUBEB, Sunday Amuna, has urged primary school teachers in the state to re-evaluate their plans to embark on strike.
Amuna had made the appeal on Monday, September 18, not long after inspecting the beginning of the new academic school year, in in some primary schools across Jos and its environs.
This appeal is coming after the News Agency of Nigeria reported that primary school teachers in a few local government areas were planning to stage an industrial action over unpaid salary arrears.
The teachers affected by the non-payment of salaries were from Bassa, Jos South, Bokkos, Pankshin, Mikkang, Langtang North and Langtang South LGAs.
Amuna had also bemoaned the dearth of infrastructure and scarcity of qualified teachers for a few core subjects.
He had said:
“I want to promise the good people of Plateau State that we will try our best to address these gaps, and ensure our children get the best education.” he said.
Some of the schools toured by the chairman were the Obasanjo Model Schools, Hwolshe, LEA, in Jos South and others.
