Senator Barau Jibrin, the Deputy President of the Senate, has said that he has put in place, machinery to stop the plans by Shoprite, one of Nigeria’s renowned supermarket chains, to shut down its only branch in Kano State.
This development is coming after Shoprite announced its decision to exit Kano in January 2024 due to the demanding economic situation in the country.
In a reaction to the firms’ exit plan, on Monday, Senator Barau’s Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Ismail Mudashir, revealed that the Deputy President of the Senate will meet with the company’s management this week in FCT, Abuja.
Recall that weeks back, Procter & Gamble, a multinational consumer company, revealed their exit plan for Nigeria.
Earlier before this, GlaxoSmithKline Consumer Nigeria Plc had announced its exit from the country.
The Manufacturers Association of Nigeria –MAN, had suggested that a lot more companies may close down their operations due to the difficult economic realities in Nigeria.
