What happened?

The limited supply of fuel in filling stations has led to widespread scarcity across the country, resulting in long queues at stations that still have fuel available.

  • As is typical in Nigeria during such situations, arguments have erupted at fuel stations due to impatience among consumers.
  • However, the fuel crisis took a tragic turn when a policeman, accompanied by a colleague, attempted to purchase fuel after allegedly making an agreement with the station manager on Wednesday.
  • Despite having spent hours waiting in line, other residents insisted that the fuel attendants should not serve those who had just arrived.
  • Efforts to persuade them were unsuccessful, leading to a heated argument.
  • Tragically, the situation escalated into violence, and the officer reportedly shot a man named Toheeb Eniafe before fleeing the scene.
  • An enraged mob pursued and apprehended one of the officers, but he managed to escape after firing shots into the air.

What they are saying?

In a tweet, Hundeyin said the officer is attached to Special Protection Unit, Lion Building, Lagos Island.

“The person behind the shooting has been identified as a police officer serving at Special Protection Unit (SPU) Base 17, Lion Building, Lagos.”

“Investigation is still ongoing and further findings will be made available. Meanwhile, the Lagos State Police Command is working with the family of the deceased to ensure that there is no miscarriage of justice.”

However, commenters on the tweet on X are demanding that the identity of the shooter be disclosed and that effective justice be delivered.

“If you have already identified the officer behind it what does investigation got to do with it? Just make him face the consequences.. Police sha” a comment reads

“No miscarriage of justice. I’ll believe it when I see it’ another comment reads

@Yugobros ‘Everyday Police personnel’s take laws into their hands and act in barbarism because their ego was hurt !
And it will continue as long as their are no serious consequences!

@Pskyxx “I swear police Dey kill more people than bandit this year.”
