Police Service Commission Union Calls on Tinubu to Replace IG

The Joint Union Congress of the Police Service Commission has demanded the removal of Inspector General of Police Kayode Egbetokun, alleging he misrepresented information about the recent recruitment exercise.

Tensions have arisen between the police and the commission’s union over the recruitment process.

On Saturday, the police claimed the recruitment was plagued by corruption and other issues, while the PSC accused the police of trying to take over the process.

Speaking to journalists on Wednesday, union Chairman Adoyi Adoyi stated that the IG’s actions could cause chaos, which contradicts the principles of his profession.

He urged President Bola Tinubu to promptly dismiss IGP Kayode Egbetokun, highlighting that misleading the President is creating confusion and potential chaos in the country, contrary to a police officer’s duties.

He compared Egbetokun’s actions to the Biblical figure Haman, who deceived his leader with disastrous intentions. Additionally, Adoyi accused certain police elements of trying to covertly add over 1000 names to the recruitment list.

He stated that credible sources revealed attempts by certain individuals within the Police Force to insert over 1,000 names into the recruitment list, severely compromising the integrity of the process. Adoyi dismissed the Inspector General’s allegations against the commission as baseless and unfounded.

He said, “The allegations of fraud and several unwholesome acts levelled against the Police Service Commission and its staff are, to say the least, unfounded, spurious, speculative and most irresponsible, especially by the way the allegations were thrown into the public space even before official channel of communication for dealing with such a matter was explored. “
