Lately, viral food trends have taken the spotlight, thanks to social media. It is really fascinating to see what food ideas people come up with and how quickly these foods can become popular. People frown upon some of these recipes while others seem to enjoy it and would love to give them a try.
It’s okay to have different opinions about food trends but one thing I can bet my bottom dollar on is that these viral trends are reshaping how the food industry operates, and food marketing is going crazy. For this article, I’m going to be sharing the top three viral foods. You can try them out yourself if it’s something that interests you. Without further ado, let’s get right into these trends.

Dubai Chocolate Bars
Starting off strong, we have the “Dubai Chocolate Bars”. If you’ve been scrolling through TikTok, you’ve likely seen the buzz about these amazing Dubai chocolate bars. Everyone is raving about them, but let’s be honest; you might not be able to hop on a plane to Dubai anytime soon. So why not recreate this delicious treat right at home?
What You Need
- Shredded phyllo dough: This is the secret to that crispy texture.
- Butter: For toasting the phyllo until it’s perfectly golden.
- Pistachio cream: For a rich, nutty flavor.
- Tahini: For added creamy, and slightly tangy element.
- Milk and dark chocolate: For the ultimate chocolatey goodness.
How To Make Dubai Chocolate Bars
- Toast the phyllo dough: Melt some butter and toast the shredded phyllo until it becomes crispy.
- Mix the filling: In a bowl, pour in the toasted phyllo dough, and combine it with pistachio cream and tahini.
- Prepare the chocolate: You can use just dark chocolate if that’s what’s available to you. But if you want the chocolate bars to be extra chocolatey, you’ll have to melt a mix of milk and dark chocolate. After that, pour a thin layer into a mold. Next you’ll have to place the mold in the fridge to solidify, before you layer them.
- Layer it up: Add the crispy filling, top with more melted chocolate, and let it harden in the fridge.
- Enjoy: Once set, pop them out of the molds.
Tanghulu
Have you heard about the special China “tanghulu”? This is a sugar-coated fruit trend, taking over social media. To be honest, this is one food trend you can get tired of, because of the amount of sugar it contains. But it’s worth giving it a try though. However this is not a new food as it has been around since the Ming Dynasty.
What You Need
- Fruits (whichever one of your choice)
- Skewers (to layer the fruits)
How To Make Tanghulu
- Wash and dry your fruits: After you settle on the kind of fruits you want to be using for this snack, you proceed to wash them properly and then dry them. It’s best to dry them properly because when these fruits are wet, the sugar won’t be able to stick properly to their bodies.
- Skewer the fruits: The next step is for you to take those clean fruits, cut up the tops, and then poke the skewers through them.
- Make the sugar syrup: In a pot or pan, combine sugar with a splash of water and heat on medium. Many people are confused about the sugar and water ratio to use for this snack. The recommended sugar ratio is usually 2:1; For every two cups of sugar, you should use one cup of water.
- Dip and cool: Once the syrup is caramelized, dip the skewered fruits into the pan with the syrup. Then immediately dip the already coated skewered fruits into a jug of ice water for a few seconds. This will help the coating to set properly. After you’ve cooled the skewered fruits on a drying rack, your tanghulu is ready to enjoy.
Soft Potato Taco Bowl
Next on the list is the soft potato taco bowl, a super easy meal that is packed with flavor.
What You’ll Need
- Yukon gold potatoes or whatever potatoes of your choice
- Olive Oil
- Seasonings (All-purpose Cajun seasoning, cumin, and chipotle powder)
- Fresh Ingredients (Tomatoes, jalapeños, red onion, cilantro, lime, and salt for a fresh pico de gallo)
- Ground Beef
- Toppings (Cheese, guacamole, and sour cream)
How To Make The Soft Potatoes Taco Bowl
- Prep the potatoes: Start by scrubbing your potatoes well; keeping the skin on adds great texture. Cut them into cubes and toss them in a bowl with olive oil and your seasonings, then coat them thoroughly.
- Roast the potatoes: Spread the seasoned potatoes on a baking sheet and roast them in a preheated oven at 425°F (220°C) for about 30-35 minutes, or until they’re fork-tender and cripsy brown.
- Make the pico de gallo: While the potatoes are roasting, chop up some tomatoes, jalapeños, red onion, and cilantro. Squeeze in some lime juice, add a pinch of salt, and mix it all together.
- Cook the beef: In a hot skillet, brown a pound of ground beef, and drain any excess fat. Stir in tomato paste, add Cajun seasoning, chipotle powder, cumin, and a splash of water. Mix it well and let it simmer until everything is fully combined.
- Assemble your bowl: Once the potatoes are done, place them in a bowl and layer on the cheese, the beef mixture, pico de gallo, and your favorite toppings like guacamole and sour cream.
