Victor Moses says “No” to Super Eagles return

Former Nigeria international, Victor Moses, who also plays as a winger for Spartak Moscow in Russia, has turned down the opportunity to play for Nigeria’s senior national side, the Super Eagles.

Moses retired from international football after the 2018 World Cup to concentrate on his club career, where he was seeking to solidify his place in Chelsea’s lineup under then-manager Maurizio Sarri.

He was approached by Gernot Rohr, the coach of the Nigerian squad, to reconsider his decision to retire from international football and assist the team in the World Cup qualifiers, but he declined.

The 29-year-old told the coach that the team has choices in his position who are performing admirably for their clubs in Europe, and that he does not believe he is required in the squad.

He feels that if the wingers in the team are properly encouraged, they will perform, as they have done with their respective teams in Europe.

Moses Simon, Chidera Ejuke, Samuel Kalu, and Samuel Chukwueze are currently on the wings as the team prepares for the vital stages of the 2022 World Cup qualifiers.
