Former President Olusegun Obasanjo paid a visit to Ondo State Governor and All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate, Lucky Aiyedatiwa, on Monday, offering words of encouragement as the election campaign heats up. Obasanjo, known for his blunt remarks, couldn’t resist a trip down memory lane, recalling his 1999 campaign. He boasted about covering the entire South West region in just one day, starting in Akure, Ondo State, and ending in Lagos by 8 pm. He wished Aiyedatiwa luck, subtly hinting at the rigorous nature of campaigning, while reminding everyone of his own political stamina.

Governor Aiyedatiwa, in a show of humility, expressed his gratitude, praising Obasanjo’s contributions to Nigeria’s development. He made sure to highlight Obasanjo’s “humble and humane” leadership style, a nod to the ex-president’s legacy.

Meanwhile, Senator Jimoh Ibrahim of Ondo South Senatorial District jumped into the fray, pledging full support for the APC in the upcoming gubernatorial election. At a rally in Igbotako, Okitipupa, he rallied his supporters, the Aseyori Group, urging them to intensify their efforts to secure votes for Aiyedatiwa. The senator made it clear that the APC needed a resounding win, not just a slim victory.

Representing the governor at the event, Deputy Governor Dr. Olayide Adelami echoed the party’s confidence, calling the APC the most united political party in the state. He urged voters to dig up their voter cards and head to the polls on November 16, emphasizing that a strong turnout was crucial for continuing the “good work” the APC claims to have started. The message was clear: victory was expected, but they wanted a landslide to cement their position.

The whole scene was a blend of political chest-thumping and subtle digs, with Obasanjo offering nostalgic advice, Aiyedatiwa playing the humble servant, and Senator Ibrahim rallying the troops. As election day looms, the APC’s confidence is on full display, let’s wait and see how this election turns out.
