A shocking news report suggest that Senate President Godswill Akpabio is set to temporarily step down in the coming week not as an act of accountability, but as part of a grand political scheme. According to Sahara Reporters, there is an ongoing inside ploy within the Senate fir Akpabio to step down temporarily so that he can be cleared of sexual harassment allegations while orchestrating an indefinite suspension of his political adversary, Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan.

The Senate Committee’s Role: A Rubber Stamp Investigation?

The Senate Committee on Ethics, Privileges, and Public Petitions (SCEPPP) is expected to oversee the proceedings, but insiders claim the outcome has already been predetermined. The alleged plan is simple: Akpabio momentarily steps aside, faces a swift and superficial inquiry, and emerges “officially innocent.” Meanwhile, Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan, a vocal opponent, is set to be sacrificed, suspended indefinitely until the end of her tenure in 2027.

Akpabio to Step Down? Inside the Plot to Declare Akpabio Innocent and Silence Natasha

This so-called investigation will be conducted by Senator Neda Imasuen’s committee, but sources suggest it is nothing more than a political theater meant to lend legitimacy to an already-written verdict. If the reports are accurate, the committee’s findings will be a foregone conclusion, not an impartial probe into serious allegations.

The Senators Backing the Suspicious Plan

To add credibility to the process, key figures within the Senate are allegedly playing supporting roles. Senator Ireti Kingibe has publicly backed the investigation, while Senator Onyekachi Nweboyin’s recent Channels TV appearance is reportedly part of the larger strategy to justify Akpoti-Uduaghan’s removal. These calculated moves indicate a broader, well-coordinated effort to manipulate Senate procedures in favor of Akpabio.

A Dangerous Precedent for Nigerian Politics

If these allegations hold, this is more than just a case of internal Senate politics, it is a dangerous power play that could undermine public trust in Nigeria’s legislative process. The message is clear: those in power can engineer their own exoneration while silencing opponents through procedural manipulation.

Conclusion: Accountability or a Political Coup?

Akpabio’s alleged resignation plot raises critical questions about the integrity of Nigeria’s legislative body. Is this a genuine attempt at accountability, or a carefully crafted deception to crush dissent? If the Senate proceeds with this plan, it risks not only delegitimizing its own oversight mechanisms but also sending a chilling message about how power is wielded in Nigeria. The coming days will reveal whether justice will be served or whether the Senate will become a stage for political vendettas.
